WEBBER NATURALS Ginkgo Biloba Extra Strength 120mg 300 softgels :The leaves of the ancient Ginkgo Biloba tree have been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries to improve brain health, and ginkgo extract is one of the most popular supplements in Europe.
Modern research shows that ginkgo enhances memory, attention, and speed of cognitive processing in healthy young adults. It also improves blood circulation in the brain and the periphery of the body. This increase in circulation is thought to underlie ginkgo’s ability to improve memory and cognitive function for people with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease, and its ability to improve mood and behaviour for people with various forms of mild-to-moderate dementia. Ginkgo extract also improves symptoms of claudication, a condition in which reduced peripheral blood flow causes the legs to become severely fatigued and cramped after walking only a short distance.
Ginkgo Biloba from webber naturals® is a standardized extract concentrated 50:1 that contains 24% flavone glycosides and 6% terpene lactones, the primary active compounds. This extra-strength formula provides the same dosage used in successful clinical trials.
Research in brief
Ginkgo was found to improve attention and memory in healthy young people. The double-blind, placebo-controlled study gave various doses of ginkgo extract to 20 volunteers. The cognitive improvements increased with the dosage and were apparent 2.5 hours after receiving 240 mg or 360 mg and were still apparent after 6 hours (Kennedy et al., 2000).
The prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association published a study that found ginkgo biloba extract improved the social functioning of Alzheimer’s patients, stabilized the disease, and significantly improved mental function in 64% of cases, with no side effects. The double-blind, randomized study involved 202 Alzheimer’s patients who received either 120 mg ginkgo extract or placebo for one year and were assessed using standard objective measures (Le Bars et al., 1997). Other research shows that ginkgo extract is just as effective as two commonly prescribed cholinesterase inhibitor drugs for treating mild to moderate Alzheimer’s (Wettstein, 2000).
